Fusion Processing’s CAVstar®

Connector Project
The Connector automated bus project represents a significant step forward in sustainable and intelligent public transport. Designed to run on a dedicated route between the city of Cambridge and surrounding areas, the project aims to ease congestion and reduce emissions while offering a reliable, high-frequency transport service. At the heart of these Enviro100 buses is our CAVstar® automated drive system, which provides advanced situational awareness and precision control to safely navigate the bus along its route. With a focus on enhancing connectivity, the project supports broader efforts to make urban travel more efficient, safer, and environmentally responsible.
Our CAVstar system brings together a powerful combination of radar, LiDAR, and AI-driven software to enable SAE Level 4 autonomous operation. This allows the electric bus to operate on-highway in complex urban environments. The technology has been proven in over 90,000 kilometers of on-highway real-world applications and trials across the UK and beyond.
This is an Innovate UK-backed project, led by the Greater Cambridge Partnership, and is supported by a consortium that includes Fusion Processing, Alexander Dennis, IPG Automotive, dRISK, and Gamma Energy. The project receives funding and guidance from the UK Government’s Centre for Connected & Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV).
